The Health Amendment Act Scheme was set up under Health (Amendment) Act 1996 to provide for supply without charge of certain health services to persons who had contracted Hepatitis C directly or indirectly from the use of Human Immunoglobulin Anti-D, or blood products, or transfusion within the state.  Eligible persons are issued with a card by the Health Services Executive (HSE) which is valid for their lifetime.  It entitles them to free prescribed medicines and medical and surgical appliances.
