Common Conditions Service

Fortune’s Pharmacy is now providing care to patients under the Common Conditions Service. The service builds on the ongoing expansion of the role of the pharmacist and allows pharmacists to prescribe a range of prescription medicines for eight common conditions under strict protocols.

The Common Conditions Service will allow eligible patients to receive advice, assessment, and treatment for a range of common, uncomplicated health conditions directly from one of our trained pharmacists—without the need to visit a GP.

This service is designed to make care more accessible, reduce waiting times, and help you get the treatment you need quickly and close to home. There will be a professional fee for each consultation. Any medicines prescribed during the consultation will be available under the HSE community drug schemes. This means that the medicine will be free if you have a medical card (the HSE levy will still apply). If you hold Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS) eligibility the cost of the medicine will count towards your monthly threshold (currently €80).

What is involved?

One of our pharmacists will carry out a consultation in our designated consultation area with the patient (or in exceptional circumstances, the patient’s representative). The pharmacist will gather all the relevant information and discuss the range of treatment options available before deciding on the best course of treatment for the patient. This may be self-care or referral to another health professional. If appropriate, the pharmacist will be able to prescribe a suitable medicine to treat the condition. We will also provide advice on self-care strategies to help you recover.

How to avail of the service?

Please drop into the Pharmacy to avail of this service. An online booking facility will be available shortly.

What does the service cost?

A fee of €35 is payable for each consultation. The cost of medicines prescribed will be extra but remember that these may be available for free or at a reduced price depending on your Health Service entitlements.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a record of any prescription medicines you are taking as well as details of any recent blood tests. If you have a medical card or DPS card, please bring it or your PPS number.
